Male Infertility

Male Infertility

Male infertility affects people from every corner of the world.

For childless couples there is also the female infertility aspect and female fertility should be considered when couples are unsuccesfully trying to conceive.

The methods that are used to help overcome male infertility are wide and varied ranging from semen analysis where the sperm quality can be analysed to severe male infertility which may need to be treated by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) whereby a single sperm is injected into an egg.

The cause of male infertility could be from a number of disorders which have to be determined by a qualified doctor after several tests are performed. A study in 2001 revealed that many men will need to undertake a male infertility test.

Some of the reasons for this:

Vasectomy – 56% of men who participated in the study were seeking to reverse the procedure.

Varicocele – 14% of men in the study had this as main reason of cause of male infertility.

Absence of sperm - This was found as cause of male infertility in 6% of men who took part in the study.

Eight percent of the study sample could not cite a specific reason for their male fertility problems.

Age is another factor that can affect male infertility. In an early study, it was determined that sperm quality and quantity do not decline until the age of 64 but another study showed that infertility signs were present in much younger men. Genetic defects can affect semen quality which is another factor worth taking into consideration. There are also these reasons to consider:

Low sperm count - Almost all major physical, mental or emotional stress can cause male fertility problems.

Emotional stress – This interferes with the GnRH hormone and results in low sperm count.

Sexual issues - In almost 1% of all cases that have been registered with clinics impotence and premature ejaculation are due to problems in the relationship.

Testicular overheating - overheating can be caused by saunas, fever or a hot tub; they can temporarily cause the sperm quality to be of a poorer quality and are thus a cause of male infertility.

Then there are issues such as diabetes and male fertility smoking and male infertility and how they can lead to the need for male fertility restoration.

Drug abuse including heavy use of marijuana, cocaine, alcohol and illicit drugs can be a temporary cause of low semen quality.

It is known that some male infertility patients are suffering from malnutrition or nutrient deficiencies and at the opposite end of the scale obesity can all contribute to a low sperm count leading to a failure of male sexual health.

There are many other factors that cause male infertility some known and some unknown to our doctors and scientists.

Due to the complexity of the problem, the process, and the cause there are a range of male fertility tests that are needed before any conclusion is reached as to what is the correct treatment that is required to increase male fertility.

The approach to treat male factor infertility should always be made together with your partner who will provide the much required support and love. Most of the time the cause of male infertility can be detected and overcome easily so gear yourself with a lot of patience and a positive attitude and you shall overcome anything that comes your way.
