Fertility Drugs
Fertility drugs are drugs that assist in creating fertile conditions in the reproductive system so that a couple can get pregnant. Infertility is suspected if a couple has been having unprotected sexual intercourse for over a year and has not been able to get pregnant. A fertility drug is prescribed by a fertility doctor after he has recommended and conducted tests to inquire into the cause of infertility.
A couple may be unable to get pregnant for several reasons and these include structural and functional problems in either the male reproductive system or the female reproductive organs. It may also be due to physiological incompatibility or even due to unknown reasons.
What Does Fertility Medicine Do?
Fertility medication makes the body's reproductive system function normally and helps in creating fertile conditions for conception. Ovulation medications help stimulate ovulation and drugs designed for this purpose include clomid fertility drug. Clomid is frequently used for women who ovulate irregularly. This drug makes their ovulation regular and increases the chances of conception. It is taken a few days after a menstrual cycle begins and should continue for about five days. Your doctor may keep a track of changes in your body by doing an ultrasound. It may take a few cycles before you are able to conceive.
If you have polycystic ovary syndrome you may not react well to the drug and your doctor may prescribe another drug to help your body become sensitive to the fertility pill. Some fertility medications may be prescribed for both the man as well as the woman. For men with low sperm count or motility (movement) the clomid fertility drug may be prescribed.
Some other infertility drugs include menopur and human menopausal gonadotrophin. For men such drugs are usually recommended when there are hormonal disturbances that affect the level of sperm and their motility.
Intrauterine insemination.
Intrauterine insemination is also called artificial insemination. In this case the sperm is collected outside the body and then introduced into the woman's uterus when she is ovulating and most fertile. Iui is usually recommended when the man has a low sperm count or the sperm have motility problems. It is also considered when the couple is unable to get pregnant due to premature ejaculation or due to some kind of injury to the man. It is also a course of treatment that is recommended for infertility caused due to unknown reasons. However, iui cannot be considered for women who have blocked fallopian tubes.
In Vitro Fertilization
In vitro fertilization or ivf is a procedure that involves fertilizing the sperm and eggs outside the body. When the eggs are fertilized and show optimum growth they are placed in the woman's womb.
It is important that you ask for fertility help as soon as you realize that you are having trouble in conceiving. You may also wish to try natural fertility drugs along with the treatment recommended by your fertility doctor and the fertility drugs that are prescribed.
