Female Infertility

Fertility Test

There are several ways to conduct a fertility test and some of them can be done and monitored right from your home. If you do not know if you are fertile and you want to start a family a female fertility test will be able to help out.

Start with an ovulation predictor kit These kits are very accurate and allow you to pin point the most fertile time of the month. An fertility test using an ovulation predictor kit is very easy to use and can greatly improve the chances of a healthy conception.

The ovulation predictor kit works by detecting the luteinizing hormone; women experience an increase in this hormone just before ovulation. By detecting the luteinizing hormone you know your most fertile period is going to be the next 36 hours.

During ovulation, your basal body temperature will increase slightly. A basal thermometer is recommended to check and record your temperature every day for a month and this is recommended when there are fertility issues.

It is advisable to do this at the same time every day as part of your fertility test especially when there are ovulation problems. Many woman keep the basal thermometer next to the bed and check their waking temperature before getting up each day.

Once a pattern has been established usually after a 3 to 4 month period it is advised that intercourse occurs 5 days before your temperature is expected to rise. It should be pointed out that this method while being inexpensive and easy is not as accurate as other methods.

Then there is self examination; become familiar with your cervical fluid pattern during ovulation when the mucus becomes more abundant and changes in appearance from opaque or white, to clear, sticky and very stretchy. This is a strong indication you are about to enter your most fertile period. If you are experiencing continuing fertility issues a postcoital test can be undertaken.

A follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) fertility test is designed for women with a high level of FSH associated with female infertility. This is an effective fertility test to determine if the infertility is caused by this hormone; some women with high level FSH will experience hot flashes or miss periods.

This has been a brief summary of where you can start with a fertility test and there are many options still available including an endometrial biopsy. A sample of the endometrium (tissue lining the inside of the uterus) is removed and studied under a microscope.

Problems with the endometrium are called luteal phase defect. This fertility test checks to see if the endometrium can support implantation and growth of a fertilized egg. The test must be done about three days before your period starts.

There are also alternative treatments like acupuncture, aromatherapy and essential oils. You can even try a fertility diet. It is important to make your life as stress free as possible and last but not least make an appointment to see a fertility specialist at your local fertility center and discuss with them your fertility issues and if you should be trying some fertility medications.

When the tests have been completed it may be time to commence infertility treatments such as intrauterine insemination which was previously known as artificial insemination.
